Colwyn Castle - Vintage Steam Train

Description

Chugging happily & noisily against the backdrop of the majestic Colwyn Castle, is this beautiful vintage steam train, as it wafts up some soft clouds of billowing vapours, almost as if it is teasing the tourists and accidental bystanders who are gawking at this cute & memorable spectacle.

This steam train ride-by seems to be a regular (seemingly popular but not very famous) event, and there's actually a train tunnel built into the ramparts at the rear of this ancient castle that's specially meant for these vintage steam trains to ride through the castle whilst they pass through the town. The trains are also visible from the Colwyn Bay beach, and you can ride within the train if you manage to catch it at one of its stopover stations. However, only locals and visitors who have done their homework about the castle activities are aware of this steam train drive-by across the castle itself, and it is certainly an awe-inspiring spectacle that must be witnessed if you ever happen to visit this beautiful place.

More history and trivia about this vintage train can be found here: www.6g.nwrail.org.uk/northwale…

The Colwyn Castle overlooks the Colwyn Bay (which is itself quite beautiful and very scenic) and an estuary (which can almost look like a small lake during high tide) so you can see boats plying nearby when walking over the ramshackle (but well-maintained) castle ramparts and walls.  There are some quaint restaurants and thrift shops nearby, and the beach has soft sands and beautiful waters, so it is a must visit. Llandudno town (another tourism hot spot) is not far off, but its beach has brackish waters, so I prefer the Colwyn Bay beach.
